Methodological Proposals and Approaches for a Historical and Theoretical Study of Dance
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article proposes a critical review of dance historiography, establishing methodological approaches and proposals in order to study and refl ect upon this art as a historical subject. Its analysis proposal integrates intertextuality and dance as a source that leads towards an idea of social history that, as an example for discussion, includes
the cultural assimilation process assumed by modern dance in Chile, combining foreign languages with the Chilean cultural reality of the mid-20th century. It performs an interpretative exercise from the discourse of its works, integrating European aesthetics with Americanist themes and the fi rst attempts to establish a popular dance based on the social ideals represented on stage.
