Anthropophagy: Habit and Ritual in Latin America

Abstract
This paper discusses two possible interpretations of cultural anthropophagy (or literary cannibalism) based on Oswald de Andrade’s Manifiesto Antropofágico, which was written in the context of the Brazilian modernist movement. Accepting the definition arising from cultural studies that conceive the phenomenon of anthropophagy as the assimilation of European culture by Latin American culture, the various forms of this process of cultural exchange are examined, with emphasis on studies that focus on a Latin American identity
