Cultural policy of the chilean military regime (1973-1976)

Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze the initiatives, directions and policies of the dictatorship with respect to theartistic-cultural environment, specifically during 1973-1976, period when the military regime wasestablished. In order to tackle this issue, first, certain general considerations are presented in relation to the role of both theartsand culture during authoritarian regimes. Then, the historical context of the military coup is set and, based on the study of various official and press sources, the cultural policies of the military regime relevant to this period are analyzed.
