Main Article Content
Abstract
The paper presents the results of a study about the life, creative processand attitude towards dreams of twenty distinguished Chilean painters. They participated in a research experience designed to increase creativity by means of diaries about dreams with descriptive sketchesand a painting based on those dreams. The results indicated that most artists had a positive attitude regarding their childhood. Painters that experienced death of loved ones find comfort in their artistic activity. Childhood games, visual abilities and curiosity were important factors in their vocation. A close relation between the artists and their work was detected. Self-appraisal of the experience revealed a perception of increased creativity and originality in fifty percent of the artists. Results for female artists were above average, especially regarding fertility of ideas and originality.
