Abstract
The objective of this work is to establish a relation between the institutions that generate scientific knowledge and the images taken by the European explorers to the Indians of Brazil. In the course of the 19th Century, the expansión of photography promoted the development of the evolutionist theories in Europe, mainly through the photographic sets brought from other continents.
