Main Article Content
Abstract
With its solicitude by the form -first the figurative form and then the abstract one- sculptress Lily Garafulic's work turns out to be, in the scope of Chilean art, a proper instance to attempt a reflexion concerning the problem of the form, that does not claim to stand for formalist theories but recover a key element of the work of art whose s tudy has been postponed by the late generations of Art historians. This reflexion is guided by the notion of unity between form, idea and matter in the work of art, that has not been steadfastly acknowledged in the long Western aesthetic tradition, where this triad of concepts have sometimes been in disagreement, and more recently prevailing one over the o ther, which instead of strengthen them in their unity has led to their mutual exclusion.
