Abstract
This paper presents and discusses the results of an exploratory study carried out with seventy two Chilean visual artists. It includes a brief review of antecedents on dreaming, dreams and art. Pleasure with dreaming, recalling dreams and their colours and perceiving the importance of dreams in creativity were the most outstanding findings. Subsequently, the paper focuses on the diverse forms of onirical expression in Latin American art. It concludes linking the world of dreams with the concern for cultural identity.
