Abstract
This paper poses the question ofthe nature offilm-music. It tries to trace the origins oftwo apparently antagonistic codes. Music is seen as a metaphysical reality which in conjunction with cinema poses aproblem that involves the totality of contemporary Aesthetics. To demónstrate this, the analysis covers productionsfrom early silent film to présent day cinema. Also the music scores especially writtenfor the cinema by great composers are given special attention.
