ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTIVE ELEMENTS AMONG THE SHEPHERDS OF THE PAMPA DE LIRIMA (PROVINCE OF TARAP ACA).

Abstract

In this work we want to present to the reader unfamiliar with the indigenous cultures of Northern Chile, all the aspects related to the construction among the pastoral communities of the Chilean altiplano, in the Pampa de Lirima, (approx. 4,000 m.) (1) (See Plan, Fig. 1.). This study arose from a one-week visit to several settlements of this pastoral group, especially to the sanctuary town of Cultane (19Q 45' Lat. S, and 689 58' Long W.; Fig. 21), on the occasion of the festivity of its Patron Saint, St. James, which is celebrated every year on July 25. We were accompanied on this occasion by anthropologist Juan van Kessel (July 1973).
