Based on the limited research on geography education in the Chilean context, the international knowledge of the role of geography in curriculum reformulations, this research presents a first overview on the current discourse in geographic education. We selected 56 specialized publications to undergo content analysis by categories based on the following questions: what do students learn when studying geography? What are the ways and means of geography learning? What is the geography that is taught and learned? Results show: a tendency to describe the types of learning outcomes rather than to show to evidence: a strong interdependence between the meanings of geography and education: a reiterated manifestation of the "struggle" between traditional geography and renovated geographies. It is concluded that there are trends in Geography Education towards the establishment of a didactic view of a comprehensive nature, based on geographical and educational renewal
